General election 2024: How The Irish Times will cover the results and key times to watch out for

The Irish Times has you well covered with full coverage of the Election 2024 results across the weekend and beyond, as the makeup of the 34th Dáil is revealed.
We are likely in for a long weekend before we have a clear idea the 174 TDs who will make up the next Dáil but there are some key times when matters should become clearer.
10pm: Polls in Election 2024 closed at 10pm and The Irish Times exit poll was published, indicating that the three largest parties – Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael and Sinn Féin – are on course for a tight finish in their share of the vote.
The results of the poll, conducted by Ipsos B&A today for The Irish Times/RTÉ/TG4/TCD are as follows: Sinn Féin 21.1 per cent, Fianna Fáil 19.5 per cent, Fine Gael 21 per cent, the Green Party 4 per cent, Labour 5 per cent, the Social Democrats 5.8 per cent, Solidarity-People Before Profit 3.1 per cent, Aontú 3.6 per cent, Independents/others 14.6 per cent and Independent Ireland 2.2 per cent.
Read full details of the exit poll here.
10.30/11pm: Our political team discusses the exit poll findings in a special edition of the Inside Politics podcast.
8am Saturday: Subscribers to our Inside Politics newsletter (you can sign-up here) will receive an election special edition newsletter with extra details from The Irish Times exit poll.
9am: Counting begins in all 43 constituencies. In the last general election in 2020, Galway East was the first constituency to report full results.
Our rolling live coverage will feature up-to-the-minute updates, analysis and reaction as tallies emerge, counts are completed and seats filled. We will also provide detailed results for each of the 43 constituencies, along with graphics showing how the country and each constituency voted.
Our politics team will provide analysis of the emerging results online, on our podcasts and via video while our columnists, including Justine McCarthy and Diarmaid Ferriter, will share their views.
Late afternoon/evening: Details of first counts should start emerging on Saturday afternoon with first seats filled later on that afternoon and into the evening. Depending on the individual returning officers, counts in some constituencies may run into early on Sunday morning.
Counting will resume on Sunday morning and continue for most for the day.
Our rolling live coverage will continue to cover the remaining counts and more analysis and opinion as the results become clear. In 2020, Cavan-Monaghan was the last constituency to complete counting with the final two seats filled shortly before midnight on the second day of counting.
We will publish profiles of each TD as they are elected.
In print, we will have a 12-page special general election supplement with news, analysis and charts showing all declared results.
We will be posting rolling updates on our main social media accounts througout the weekend. Follow us on your preferred social platform to make sure you don’t miss a thing.
