2019 West Point Hoard of 2016 Proof Silver Eagles. In 2019, for the first time in the 35 year history of the American Silver Eagle, the U.S. Mint had found some extra Proof Silver Eagles from years prior. Rather than melt them down, which is standard protocol, the U.S. Mint sold them in a blind bid auction. This has become known as "The West Point Hoard" of Silver Eagles. This is why PCGS has put both the 2016 and 2019 dates on the certification label in addition to the verbiage "WP Mint Hoard."
